Vol. 118 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Dispensary Residence.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of the very unsatisfactory condition of the residence occupied by the dispensary medical officer in Ballinhassig, County Cork; whether it is proposed to make a new residence available, and, if so, when.

I am aware of the unsatisfactory condition of the residence in Ballinhassig, County Cork, occupied by the dispensary medical officer attached to the Ballygarvan dispensary district. The South Cork Board of Public Assistance propose to provide a dispensary residence near Riverstick in the present Ballymartle dispensary district, but the site selected by the board would not be suitable as a residence for the present Ballygarvan district or in the likely event of a rearrangement of Ballygarvan and Ballymartle districts.

In these circumstances, the South Cork Board of Public Assistance has been asked to reconsider the matter. I am awaiting their reply.

Is the Minister aware that the South Cork Board of Public Assistance asked the Department for a survey of the dispensary districts under their jurisdiction two years ago and that they are still awaiting that survey?

Is the Minister aware that the South Cork Board of Assistance had been dealing with this for the past 15 or 16 years and did nothing up to the last few years?

I am afraid that I am not familiar with the subject matter of the two supplementary questions, but having regard to my general knowledge, I am sure Deputy Desmond is correct.

You may be sure I am correct, too.
