Vol. 118 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Employee's Conditions of Employment.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received representations from Miss Sarah Carroll, a cook at the County Hospital, Portlaoighise, concerning her conditions of employment; whether he is aware that the chairman of Laoighis County Council ruled out of order a motion asking the Minister to investigate Miss Carroll's grievance, and whether he will inquire fully into her case at an early date.

I have received representations from the cook, County Hospital, Portlaoighise, regarding her off-duty periods. This is a matter for the county manager, in the first instance. If the cook is aggrieved by the decision of the county manager concerning this or any other conditions of her employment, it is open to her to appeal to me under Section 10 of the Local Government Act, 1941.

If such an appeal is submitted I will have the matter inquired into.

Will the Minister convey to the Minister for Health the fact that Miss Carroll has submitted her appeal to the Minister within the past week?

If the lady in question has submitted her appeal to the Minister, I am sure he will consider it.
