Vol. 118 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Roads.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the main road from Mulranny to Bangor Erris, which is an important tourist road and serves a large area, is in a deplorable condition due to the heavy turf traffic it carried during the war years; and, if so, whether he will consider giving a full grant for the steamrolling of the road.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the bad condition of the county roads in the parish of Aughoose, from Glenamoy to Rossport and Corratigue, and from the main road to Aughoose and Pullathomas and on to Inver, and of the county roads in Achill and the road to Currane from Mulranny; and, if so, whether he will have a survey made of these roads and provide a grant for their repair this year.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will provide a supplementary grant for the continuation of steamrolling on the Bangor, Geesalia and Glencastle Road.

With your permission I propose to take Questions Nos. 38, 39 and 40 together. The Mayo County Council share of the grants for road works in the current year has already been applied to specific works, some of which are on the roads referred to by the Deputy. It is not possible at this stage to make further grants available for road works in the current financial year. The question of selecting works to be undertaken with the moneys available in any year is a matter for the county council in the first instance and it is open to the Deputy to make representations to that body to include particular works in next year's programme.
