Vol. 118 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax on Motor Hearses.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has re-examined the taxation level in respect of motor hearses in urban and rural areas with a view to removing the additional tax imposed on them by the Supplementary Budget of 1947; and, if so, with what result.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will now introduce proposals for legislation to reduce the tax on motor hearses, at present £28 per year, as they are a type of vehicle not in use continuously.

I propose to take Questions No. 32 and No. 33 together.

Motor taxation generally, including taxation of motor hearses, was reviewed by me early this year in connection with the Budget and I decided not to recommend any change. The matter will again fall to be reviewed when next year's Budget comes to be formulated and if any changes are considered desirable, the necessary legislative provision will be made in the Finance Bill.
