Vol. 118 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cranes for Galway Docks.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the urgent necessity for providing two mobile cranes at Galway docks for the purpose of unloading cargo; and, if so, whether he will arrange to have these cranes provided there at the earliest possible date.

An application for State assistance for improvement works at Galway Harbour is at present under consideration and I hope to be able to convey a decision to the harbour authority at an early date.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that boats carrying cargo for Galway have to go to Limerick to be unloaded and the goods sent by rail or road from Limerick to Galway, because of the fact that there is only one hand-crane available in the docks in Galway? Is he further aware that hand-cranes were available from the Disposals Board in the Six Counties if the people in Galway had only decided to buy them?

That is hardly a question for the Minister.
