Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Pike Dispensary Service.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that the residents of the Kerry Pike district, near Cork, suffer great inconvenience in attending at the central dispensary in Cork which is three or four miles distant; and, if so, whether he will arrange to have a convenient dispensary service provided locally once a week.

I have not received any complaints of hardship suffered by the residents of the Kerry Pike district by reason of their having to attend at the central dispensary in Cork.

I shall, however, have inquiries made regarding this matter and I shall ascertain the views of the Board of Assistance for the South Cork Public Assistance District regarding the necessity for the provision of a public assistance depôt in the Kerry Pike district.

Would the Minister bear in mind in any negotiations into which he enters that there is no bus service available in this district and that that is due largely to the objections of the Garda Síochána to running a bus service in the district?

I will bear the Deputy's representations in mind.

Is the Minister aware that the South Cork Board of Assistance is still awaiting the result of the survey carried out by his Department? Is he further aware that they cannot carry out any improvements until that survey is made available to them?

I am sure that will be made clear to me when I ask for their consideration of this particular point.
