The discontinuance of the manufacture of lead toys at Spiddal was caused by the failure of the market for the lead type of toys produced there. Forty-five workers were disemployed as a result. Immediate re-employment in the knitwear centres at Carraroe and Ballinahown was offered to 17 of these workers, which left a balance of 28 workers to be reemployed in the factory when the necessary arrangements could be made for the installation of machines and power to commence an alternative line of production. These arrangements are being expedited so far as possible and it is hoped that a start can be made at an early date.
