Vol. 118 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Unions' Housing Programme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of houses built for letting to their members by trade unions under the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1948.

No trade union has applied for a grant under the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1948, in respect of houses built for letting to members.

Is the Minister aware that in the town of Galway the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union spent thousands of pounds in erecting a luxurious shop and offices, that the premises are now for sale and that, in view of the conditions under which workers are living, it would be better for them to build houses?

That is a most unworthy question for the Deputy to ask as he does not know the circumstances.
