Vol. 119 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Publication.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in regard to the brochure entitled "Ireland is Building" published by the Stationery Office (1) how many copies were printed; (2) the cost of printing and publishing; (3) the number of copies distributed free; (4) the number of copies sold at the price of 3d.; (5) the number of copies sold at less than 3d. and to whom, and the price charged in each case.

The information asked for by the Deputy is as follows: (1) the number of copies of the brochure which were printed on its first printing was 10,000; (2) the cost of printing and publishing was £614 9s. 0d.; (3) the number of copies distributed free was 7,700; (4) the number of copies sold at the published price of 3d. a copy was 2,300, and (5) no copies were sold at less than 3d. a copy.

A second printing of 10,000 copies of the brochure, at an estimated cost of £315, is in course of delivery, and 1,000 copies from that printing have been distributed free.

Although the point is not covered by the Deputy's question. I think it well to add that further expenditure, amounting to £946, has been incurred, in connection with the brochure, on publicity designed to bring to the notice of Irish skilled building workers abroad the opportunities of suitable employment now available at home.
