Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state in respect of (i) mid-December, 1932; (ii) mid-December, 1939; and (iii) mid-December, 1949, (a) the number of persons insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts; (b) the number of persons in receipt of unemployment benefit; and (c) the percentage of (a) represented by (b).

The available annual figure of the number of persons insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts is the total of unemployment books exchanged and new unemployment books issued in the insurance year ending on each first Sunday of October. Subject to this, the information asked for by the Deputy is as follows:—

As in the reply to the preceding question, the figures for males insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts relate to the insurance years ended on the first Sunday of October in the years 1932, 1939 and 1949. The following is the information sought by the Deputy:—
