The returns furnished by local authorities do not give information in the form required by the Deputy. The figures available show the number of persons in receipt of home assistance on a particular date in each month and not the total number of persons who received assistance during the year. It may suit the Deputy's purpose if I give the number of persons in Balrothery who were in receipt of home assistance on 31st March in each of the years mentioned in the question. The figures are as follows:—1938, 1393; 1939, 1625; 1947, 479; 1948, 338; 1949, 319.
