Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that Mr. Thomas King, Killeen, Ballyvary, County Mayo, is the owner of a non-residential farm at the above address, and whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to take possession of this land to relieve the congestion which exists in the area.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a large number of landholders in the townland of Carrownedan, Aughamore, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, are still living in uneconomic holdings, and that a farm in the townland containing 75 acres, owned by Mr. John Moran, is non-residential; and whether he will request the Land Commission to acquire this farm to resettle the area.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a farm of approximately 50 acres owned by Dr. Dermody, Davros, Hollymount, County Mayo, has been let in grazing on the 11 months' system for over 20 years, and whether he will request the Land Commission to acquire this land for the creation of new holdings for migrants.

I will ask the Land Commission to look into this case.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position regarding the acquisition of the farm of Mr. Thomas Dunleavy, Carna-cross, Bohola, County Mayo.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of these lands. It is not possible to state what the outcome will be.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what is the intention of the Land Commission regarding the acquisition of the farm of Mr. Michael Begley, Facefield, Claremorris, County Mayo.

There has been no change in the position of this case since my reply to the Deputy's question on the 2nd March, 1949.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards acquiring portion of the large farm of Mr. Gallagher, Straide, County Mayo, for the relief of local congestion; and whether he will pay particular attention to this matter in view of the fact that Michael Davitt was evicted from a cottage on this farm many years ago.

The Land Commission do not propose to take any action for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made towards acquiring the farm of Mr. Mellett, Coolisduff, Kilmaine, County Mayo, for the creation of migrants' holdings and the relief of congestion.

The Land Commission have decided not to take any action for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that approximately 100 acres of land owned by Mr. Kenneth Nally, Rockstown, Balla, County Mayo, have been let for grazing on the 11 months' system for over 20 years, and whether he will request the Land Commission to acquire this land for the creation of new holdings for migrants.

The Land Commission have decided not to take any action for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have taken any steps to acquire the farm of the late Captain Browne, Dowagh, Cross, Claremorris, County Mayo, for redistribution amongst local small land holders.

The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reason for the delay in acquiring the estate of Lord Sligo, Westport, County Mayo, for redistribution amongst local small holders.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of this estate except for a small area in Drummindoo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why the Land Commission allowed a further extension of two years to Mr. Martin Sheridan, Facefield, Claremorris, County Mayo, in view of the fact that the commissioners had already decided to take over the land concerned in November, 1949.

On consideration of all the circumstances the Land Commission decided to defer further consideration of this matter until November, 1950.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a large number of small holdings are now non-residential and let in grazing in the townland of Tooromeen, Bohola, County Mayo, and whether he will request the Land Commission to acquire these holdings to relieve the congestion which exists in the locality.

The rearrangement of this badly congested townland has been in hands for some time past and it is expected to be a considerable time before a solution to the problem can be reached.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position regarding the acquisition by the Land Commission of the farm of Mr. Garratt Nally, Roundfort, Hollymount, County Mayo.

The proceedings in regard to these lands are not yet completed.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why the Land Commission have not acquired the farm of Mr. Martin Brennan, Cottage, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, for the relief of congestion.

The intention in this case is to provide an exchange, which is not yet ready.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken by the Land Commission to acquire portion of the large farm of Mr. Peter Ryan, Castlereagh, Irishtown, County Mayo, for the relief of local congestion.

The position is unchanged since my reply to the Deputy on 26th May, 1948.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that Mrs. Judge, Aughervilla, Claremorris, County Mayo, is the owner of approximately 50 acres of non-residential land and whether he will request the Land Commission to acquire this land for the relief of congestion

I will ask the Land Commission to look into this case.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that Lord Oranmore and Browne is in occupation of a large estate at Castle-magarrett, Claremorris, County Mayo, and whether it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire this estate for redivision amongst deserving applicants.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of this estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken to relieve the congestion and rundale system which exists at Ranahard, Brickens, Claremorris, County Mayo (Clanmorris estate).

The area referred to by the Deputy is being examined, with a view to the rearrangement and enlargement of the holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken to acquire portion of the large farm of Mr. James Joseph Hession, Mountjennings and Roose, Hollymount, County Mayo, for the relief of congestion.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of part of the lands in question.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that a large farm owned by Mrs. kelly, Churchfield, Knock, Claremorris, County Mayo, was sold recently to a resident of California, United States of America, and whether he will request the Land Commission to acquire this farm immediately for division amongst local congested holders.

The Land Commission decided a short time ago not to acquire these lands. The fact that the lands have been sold recently is not a sufficient reason for the Land Commission to alter their decision. They have already taken steps to relieve congestion in the area.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards acquiring the McCormack estate in the townlands of Grange and Drummond, Strokestown, County Roscommon, for the relief of congestion.

Proceedings have been initiated in this case.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is the intention of the Land Commission to acquire portion of the estate of Mr. John P. Clarke in Kiltrustan and Greywood, Strokestown, County Roscommon, for the relief of congestion.

Most of the estate has been acquired.
