Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress the Land Commission have made towards acquiring the non-residential lands of Mr. Malachy Kelly, situated at Ballyglass, on the Comyn estate, Kilconnell, County Galway, for the relief of congestion in the area.

The Land Commission have decided not to take any action for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards acquiring the farm of Mr. Talbot, situated at Garry Castle, Athlone, in order to relieve the plight of the flooded-out farmers in the Clonown area, near Athlone.

The Land Commission have not completed their inquiries in this case.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the result of the inquiry made by the Land Commission into the sale of the estate of the Duke of Leinster (approximately 1,000 acres) to a non-national combine.

The inquiries in this case have not yet been completed.

Is the Minister aware that on 25th May last I asked him a question with regard to the sale of this estate belonging to the Duke of Leinster and is he seriously suggesting that the Land Commission have not yet reached a decision in the matter?

The inquiries have not been completed.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission intend to acquire the Watson Estate (formerly Hanley estate), Mountveagh, Strokestown, for the relief of congestion.

This case has been noted for consideration.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have considered the representations made to them regarding the question of the rearrangement of the townland of Moneenbeg on the Tredennick estate, County Roscommon; and, if so, what decision has been arrived at in the matter.

Preliminary investigations have been carried out in this case but it is not yet possible to state to what extent rearrangement can be effected.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress the Land Commission have made towards acquiring the land of the representatives of Louis Ward, Old-town, Kilcashel, Ballydangan, County Roscommon, for the relief of congestion.

The Land Commission have decided not to take any action for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards acquiring the Comyn and Raftery estate, Miltown, Roscommon.

Decisions have not yet been reached in these cases.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have now reached a decision in connection with the acquisition of the Levinge estate, Newpark, Kiltoom, County Roscommon.

Proceedings have been instituted for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether it is likely that a scheme for the division of Mr. Patrick Casserley's holding on the Balfe estate, County Roscommon, will be prepared in the near future.

It is not possible to state if or when a scheme for this estate will be prepared as the lands have not been acquired.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress the Land Commission have made towards acquiring the non-residential farm on the Balfe estate held by Mr. Joseph Coen, Knockglass, Ballinameen, Boyle, for the relief of congestion in the area.

The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of these lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state when a scheme for the division of the Crofton estate, Mote Park, Roscommon, is likely to be put into operation.

It is expected that most of this estate will be allotted very soon.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is in a position to state when the Land Commission intend to put into operation a scheme for the division of the Henry estate, Aughlahand, Lacken, Strokestown, County Roscommon.

The allotment of this estate is held up pending the resumption of other lands in the area.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the position in regard to the proposal to subdivide the lands known as "The Commons", situated at Killeheen townland, Kilscannell E.D., amongst the residents of the area who have the right in common to graze these lands and whether he is aware (1) that many of the persons concerned are small uneconomic holders and that the addition of a piece of "The Commons" to their holdings would be most desirable; and (2) that the communal ownership at present in operation is not conducive to a desire in the individual to keep the lands in good heart, and as a result, the carrying power and quality of the lands have deteriorated and whether, in view of the foregoing, he will give this matter of the subdivision of the lands his early attention.

The subdivision of this vested commonage is a matter for arrangement between the owners, subject to the consent of the Land Commission. The Land Commission will consider any proposed subdivision which is agreed upon by the owners.
