Vol. 119 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour and Bread Inquiry Report.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give an assurance that the Government will not take any action on the recommendations made in the Report of the Flour and Bread Inquiry Committee without first giving Deputies the opportunity of examining the report.

The Government are still considering the recommendations made in the Report of the Flour and Bread Inquiry Committee. I regret that I am unable to give an assurance of the kind requested by the Deputy.

Is the Minister aware that producers of wheatenmeal flour believe that the withdrawal of the subsidy on that commodity is imminent and will he now give an assurance that the subsidy will not be withdrawn until the report is published and Deputies will have had time to examine it?

I cannot deal with every rumour set afloat in the country.
