Vol. 119 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Monaghan Fertilisers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will explain the failure of his Department to implement the guarantees given regarding the spreading of fertilisers and lime on land already dealt with under the Land Rehabilitation Project in County Monaghan.

There has been no failure in giving effect to the arrangements in regard to the spreading of lime and phosphates on land reclaimed under the terms of the land project. Lime and phosphates will be spread on every acre of land so reclaimed in County Monaghan and in every other county throughout the country.

The Deputy will appreciate that two tons of ground limestone and six cwts. of phosphates cannot be made available immediately each acre has been reclaimed; it is intended to arrange supply of these fertilisers by assembling enough orders for a particular area to make delivery economic.

Is that the reason for the Minister's record-breaking reply in answer to Deputy Corry the other day? Deputy Corry asked how much fertiliser and lime was spread on the land reclaimed in County Monaghan. Is the reason for the reply given—none—that fertiliser was not available?

I am afraid the Deputy and myself are becoming deafer. I cannot associate the two questions at all.
