Vol. 119 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Feale Catchment.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether provision has been made in the Estimates for 1950-51 for the drainage of the Feale catchment (Brick and Cashen); and, if so, the amount so provided.

Pending the presentation to Dáil Éireann of the Estimates for 1950/51, I am unable to indicate the precise amount to be provided for arterial drainage construction works in the Feale (Brick and Cashen) catchment. The Deputy may take it, however, that in accordance with my statement to the House some time ago, specific provision will be made for this catchment.

The printed volume of the Estimates will be available almost immediately.

There is no doubt but that the Parliamentary Secretary's reply will bring great relief to the people of the district when they read it in the Public Press and especially those who have been affected by serious flooding in the past number of years. I should, however, like to get from the Parliamentary Secretary some indication of when work is likely to start on this scheme.

As early as I can this summer.
