Vol. 119 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Resettlement.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what steps have been taken to resettle the congestion and rundale system which exists at Garrywadreen, Claremorris, County Mayo.

This is one of the many congested areas which are under examination. The Land Commission will relieve the congestion in Garrywadreen as soon as a satisfactory scheme can be prepared.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware (a) that a number of small farmers in the townland of Brackloon West, Bekan, County Mayo, live on holdings of under £10 valuation; and (b) that three holdings of land in the same townland, owned by Mr. Niland, Mr. Kilkenny and Mr. Duffy, are non-residential and let in grazing; and, if so, whether he will ask the Land Commission to have this locality investigated with a view to having it resettled.

The Land Commission have already taken preliminary steps for the relief of the congestion in this area, and I will ask them to expedite rearrangement with the minimum of delay.
