Written Answers. - Special Allowance Applications.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (1) the date on which applications for special allowances were made by Mr. Michael O'Riordan, St. Fachtna's Sanatorium, Skibbereen; Mr. George Gaul, 13 Farren Street, Cork, and Mr. Joseph O'Callaghan, 16 St. Finbarr's Street, Cork; (2) the dates on which each application was referred to the Department of Social Welfare for investigation of means, and, if replies have been received from that Department, the date of the reply in each case, and (3) when he hopes to give a decision on these cases.

Applications for special allowances by Mr. Michael O'Riordan, St. Fachtna's Sanatorium, Skibbereen; Mr. George Gaul, 13 Farren Street, Cork, and Mr. John Joseph O'Callaghan, 16 St. Finbarr's Street, Cork, were made on the 3rd October, 1949, the 12th September, 1949, and the 21st September, 1949, respectively. The applications were referred to the Department of Social Welfare for the investigation of means on the 14th October, 1949, the 15th September, 1949, and the 24th September, 1949, replies being received on the 24th January, 1950; the 7th November, 1949, and the 15th November, 1949. Investigations are now nearing completion in the three cases mentioned and I hope to give decisions on them at an early date.
