Vol. 119 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishery Conservators.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that dissatisfaction exists with the method of election of members to boards of fishery conservators; and, if so, whether he will introduce proposals for legislation to ensure fair representation on these boards for all interests.

I am aware that certain parties are dissatisfied with the present method of election of members of boards of fishery conservators and I will be prepared to consider any practical suggestions put forward for the improvement of the election procedure when framing proposals for amending fisheries legislation to be introduced after the present task of consolidating the fishery statutes is completed.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say if the Minister is, therefore, prepared to meet the different interests and to hear their point of view?

Yes, any interests that wish to make representations to the Minister will have their representations considered.
