Vol. 120 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Corricherry (County Limerick) P.O.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that Corricherry Post Office, Ardagh, County Limerick, has no telephone facilities; that the nearest telepriest four miles away and the nearest doctor and veterinary surgeon each seven miles away; and whether, in view of these facts, he will make early arrangements for the provision of a call office at Corricherry.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me to Deputies S. Flynn and T. Walsh on the 15th ultimo on the question of the provision of call offices at Rossinver and Dungarvan, Thomastown.

As I intimated then, work on the Department's scheme to install a telephone in every post office has been resumed. The order in which call offices will be installed must necessarily be based on engineering considerations in order to provide for the most expeditious clearance of the work.

The bulk of the call offices remaining to be dealt with is in remote areas and it may be taken that the considerations urged on behalf of Corricherry apply in a large number of cases.

Corricherry is not included in the programme for the next 12 months.
