Vol. 120 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Migrants.

Mr. Maguire

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (1) the number of applications received by his Department from persons anxious to migrate from the West of Ireland during the past seven years; (2) the total number of applications so dealt with during the period, the respective number of applicants from each county, the area of land involved and the total number of persons concerned; (3) the number of migrants it is proposed to deal with this year and next from Leitrim and Sligo; (4) the total area of land now acquired by the Land Commission for this purpose, and the proposed allotment for each county; (5) the area of land which has been offered for sale to the Land Commission by owners in the two counties mentioned, and to what extent negotiations have proceeded in this respect; and (6) whether he can give any indication of the approximate price per acre which these lands will cost his Department to purchase.

To supply the information required would involve considerable research and expense which I feel would not be justified. The particulars are not readily available from the records kept in the Department but if the Deputy will communicate with me I will endeavour to meet his requirements as far as possible.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will indicate the names of the estates in Tipperary South Riding which the Land Commission propose to acquire for the relief of local congestion.

The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition or resumption of over 1,500 acres of land in Tipperary South Riding. It is not possible to state how much of that area will eventually be acquired.
