Vol. 120 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Promotion of Local Authority Officers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider the question of amending the regulations in relation to the clerical staffs employed by local authorities to permit of the promotion of officers of the grade of clerk-typist to the grade of clerical officer in cases where the local authority is satisfied as to the general fitness and competence of the person proposed for such promotion.

The promotion of a permanent officer of the local authority where the vacancy exists or of another local authority having the same manager may be effected under the Local Government (Officers) Regulations, 1943, subject to my sanction and to compliance with certain rules limiting the number of appointments which may be made in this matter.
