Vol. 120 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathkeale Playing Pitch Site.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has yet reached a decision in regard to the proposals submitted by the Gaelic Athletic Association, Rathkeale, for the purchase of the old workhouse site at Rathkeale for use as a playing pitch; and, if not, whether he will indicate the present position in the matter.

The provisions of the State Lands (Workhouses) Act, 1930, do not permit the alienation of workhouse property for a period greater than 99 years and there can, therefore, be no question of purchasing the premises at Rathkeale.

As soon as an inquiry was received in my Department from the Gaelic Athletic Association the county council was asked for particulars of the extent and nature of the property so that the rent to be charged could be estimated. This information which is essential to the negotiation of a lease has not yet been supplied, but the county council has been asked to provide it as soon as possible and it is expected that my Department will very shortly be in a position to discuss terms with the Gaelic Athletic Association.
