Vol. 120 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost-of-Living Index Figures.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state what the cost-of-living index figure would be in respect of the years 1938 and 1950, if bread were excluded from the list of foods used in calculating the index figure.

The cost-of-living index numbers in 1938 to the base July, 1914=100, calculated by excluding bread would be, mid-February, 172; mid-May, 169; mid-August, 172, and mid-November, 176. The interim (essential items) index number at mid-February, 1950, to the base August, 1947=100, would be 101, when calculated in a similar manner.
