Vol. 120 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Schools for County Mayo.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state when work will start on the proposed new school at Muinganguane, near Glenamoy, in in the parish of Aughoose, and if he will ensure that action in the matter is speeded up, as children in that area are suffering grave hardship on account of the long distance across a mountain which they have to travel to attend school.

A suitable site for a new school at Muinganguane has been procured, but certain preliminary arrangements have still to be made before a grant can be sanctioned by the Department towards the cost of the new building. In the circumstances, I am unable at present to say when work on the erection of the new school will commence, but every effort is being made, and will continue to be made to expedite the case.

asked the Minister for Education when the proposed new school at Cloneen, in the Binghamstown parish, will be started; and if he will take steps to have it started as soon as possible.

The Department has sanctioned a grant towards the cost of erecting the proposed new school at Cloneen in the Binghamstown parish.

The arrangements for the erection of the new school are in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works. I understand that the plans and specification are at present in course of preparation.

I am unable to say when the work on the construction of the new school will be started but every effort will be made to have the matter expedited.
