Vol. 120 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Mayoral Election.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the Dublin City Council has fixed the 26th day of June next as the day to elect a lord mayor for the ensuing year, and, as the municipal elections in the City of Dublin have been fixed for the 20th September, whether he intends to introduce proposals for legislation to postpone the mayoral election.

I am not so aware. Having regard to the action of the corporation as stated by the Deputy, I shall have the matter examined by my legal advisers, as I understand that in view of the triennial elections not being held until September, mayors and chairmen of municipal bodies would not be due for election until the first meeting after the day of election.
