Vol. 121 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Clerks.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, pending the holding of the competition, confined to temporary clerks for posts as established employment clerk, he will consider making the differential salary scale for married men applicable to these temporary clerks.

I would refer the Deputy to a reply given by my predecessor on the 12th June, 1946, for a general statement on the principles governing the differentiation on the basis of marriage of Civil Service pay. The scales for successful candidates at the forthcoming confined examination for established posts of employment clerk will be framed in the light of these principles. The same considerations equally apply in respect of the pay of temporary employment clerks and the question of altering such pay does not, therefore, arise.
