Vol. 121 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of delay in the payment of a housing grant to Mr. Tim Sheehan, Doonore, Kilcorney, County Cork.

There has been no delay on the part of the Department in dealing with this case. An application for a grant was received on 24th March last and a certificate of approval to a grant of £235 was issued on 20th April. No application for payment of an instalment of the grant has yet been received in the Department. I understand that the erection of the house did not commence until 12th April last.

Mr. Murphy

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for delay in dealing with the application of Mr. Timothy Cronin, O'Donovan's Cove, Durrus, Bantry, Country Cork, for a housing grant, and if he will take steps to have payment made as quickly as possible.

As the Deputy has previously been informed in my Department, the delay in this case is due largely to the failure of the applicant to comply with the requirements prescribed by the Housing (Reconstructed Houses) Regulations, 1948. The case has now been approved for payment of a grant of £80 and the Department's inspector has been requested to issue a certificate for payment if the approved work has been satisfactorily completed.
