Vol. 121 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drimoleague-Skibbereen Train Service.

Mr. Murphy

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will urge on Córas Iompair Éireann the desirability of altering the time of departure of the 9 a.m. train services from Drimoleague to Skibbereen to 10.10 a.m. so as to facilitate people who must travel on fair and market days to Skibbereen and who arrive in Drimoleague at 10 a.m. by bus from Bantry, as there is no other connection between Bantry, Drimoleague and Skibbereen.

It was formerly the practice to answer questions of this nature addressed to me by Deputies, but the section of the Transport Act, 1944, which placed certain responsibilities on me in regard to the provision of additional transport services or the variation of existing services or facilities does not apply in the case of Córas Iompair Éireann as established by the Transport Act, 1950. This question relates to a matter of day-to-day administration which I consider should be left entirely to Córas Iompair Éireann and in regard to which I have no function. I would suggest that the Deputy might address his inquiries direct to Córas Iompair Éireann.
