Vol. 121 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Accommodation.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that efforts to secure admission into a hospital in Dublin of a patient suffering from skin trouble have failed, although three hospitals were approached, and whether, in view of the scarcity of beds provided for this class of illness, he will make a statement in the matter.

I have no information about the case referred to by the Deputy. Any question of a shortage of beds for skin cases is linked up with the general bed problem in Dublin and as I have several times indicated in reply to questions in the House the carrying into effect of the Dublin hospital building proposals which I have approved as part of the short-term hospital building programme should substantially relieve the position.

Mr. Byrne

I am aware that three hospitals were asked within the last week for a bed for a skin patient who was suffering very severely. I myself tried to get a bed and failed. In view of that fact, would the Minister be prepared to ask the hospitals to provide temporary beds for this particular type of patient?
