Vol. 121 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchases by Non-Nationals.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the number of holdings of 50 acres and over which have been purchased by non-nationals during the first quarter of 1950.

As explained previously, I can give no particulars other than those derived from records relative to the higher rate of stamp duty imposed in respect of conveyances and transfers to non-nationals. According to these records the number of individuals who paid the higher rate of stamp duty in respect of the transfer to them of holdings of land of 50 acres and over in the first quarter of 1950 was four.

I regret that the numbers which I gave the Deputy on the 10th May concerning the years 1948 and 1949 were not complete. According to information that has since become available the number of individuals who purchased holdings of land of 50 acres and over for consideration of £1,000 or more, and who paid stamp duty at the 25 per cent. rate, is: 1948, 27; 1949, 15.
