Vol. 121 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cleaning of Government Offices.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that many Government offices are cluttered up with old files covered in dust, and if he will arrange to carry out an inspection of all Government offices and ensure that the health of the occupants is not endangered by the generations of dust reposing on and covering those files.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy, and I do not consider that it is necessary to carry out the inspection which he has suggested. The cleaning of Government offices and their contents is a departmental responsibility, and is adequately covered by the existing instructions and procedure, which include provision for vacuum cleaning in cases beyond the capacity of the ordinary departmental cleaning staffs.
