Vol. 121 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Turf in Cork.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that the price of turf supplied to old age pensioners and others under the social welfare services has been increased in Cork from 8d. to 10d. per half cwt.; and, if so, if he will take steps to have this turf made available at the former price.

I have ascertained that the contribution required has been raised from 8d to 10d. as the Cork Corporation found that the cost of the fuel for the summer of 1949 was higher than originally estimated. The contribution fixed for this summer is based on the corporation's experience of last year.
