Vol. 121 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Ration for Hospitals and Institutions.

asked the Minister for Health if he will recommend that an increased ration of butter be allowed in all hospitals and institutions.

I have no functions in connection with the dieting of patients in voluntary hospitals. As regards local authority hospitals, I am not aware that the butter ration is inadequate in general for the needs of the patients in those hospitals. In any particular case where the medical officer of such a hospital is satisfied that butter in excess of the ration is required for a patient, the local authority is empowered to provide the required extra amount of butter.
