Vol. 121 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin County Council Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he has yet completed his consideration of the power of Dublin County Council to provide cottages for pensionable officers of local authorities and State servants, including members of the Garda Síochána; and, if so, when he proposes to introduce proposals for legislation in connection with the matter.

I would invite the Deputy to await the publication of the Bill to amend the Housing Acts, which will be introduced in the near future.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take steps, if necessary by the introduction of proposals for legislation, to have rights of purchase accorded to incoming and existing tenants of recently-built cottages in the Dublin County Council area.

I would refer the Deputy to the provisions of Section 12 of the Labourers Act, 1936, which provides that the local authority shall, within 12 months, make purchase schemes for every new cottage erected by them.
