Vol. 121 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blanchardstown Sanatorium.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state whether, in the proposed sanatorium buildings at Blanchardstown, provision will be made for the use of cut stone in window and door sills, jambs and heads.

Provision is not being made for the use of cut stone in window and door sills, jambs and heads, in the proposed sanatorium buildings at Blanchardstown.

In this connection I would refer the Deputy to the contents of the reply given to a question of 28th March, 1950, by Deputy Patrick Beegan, in regard to the use of cut stone in the erection of the sanatorium at Merlin Park, Galway.

Can the Minister give any reason why provision is not being made for the inclusion of this class of work in the proposed building at Blanchardstown?

It is a matter, I take it, of specifications by the architects. I am afraid that I am not in a position to give the Deputy any further information on the matter at the moment.

Is the Minister aware that a large number of people depend on this type of work for a living, and that persons who engage in this kind of work expect to get the opportunity of providing, at least in the case of public buildings, the door sills, jambs and heads?

All I can say to the Deputy is that I know that in a similar case the additional course would have amounted to something in the nature of £21,000.
