I made it clear in 1948 that, rather than have to reimpose the excess corporation profits tax retrospectively, I would prefer to see a movement towards breaking prices. In reply to a question on the 23rd March last the Taoiseach mentioned a number of commodities the prices of which had been reduced as a result of the Government's activities. Neither the extent nor the range of the reductions made is regarded as satisfactory and the position is kept constantly under review. If the Deputy has any particular instances in mind in which excessive profits are being taken I shall be glad if he will bring them under notice.
