Vol. 121 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the area including Kinsealy, Balgriffin, Cloughran and Coolock, has been surveyed by the Electricity Supply Board in connection with the scheme for rural electrification; and, if so, if he will state whether it has been decided to provide electric current in this area.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the area in question has been canvassed and the network designed and costed. In the case of the portion of the area at Cloughran, the proximity of the Dublin Airport requires that special measures be taken to avoid the danger to aircraft of high tension electricity lines near the airport. Progress is being made in the matter of the examination of the position by the Electricity Supply Board in an endeavour to arrive at a method of giving electricity supply in the immediate vicinity of the airport without unduly heavy capital cost. Until this examination is completed, it will not be possible to arrive at final figures for the area as a whole.
