Vol. 122 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Statistics of Earnings.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of persons earning (a) £150 per annum; (b) £300 per annum; (c) £500 per annum; (d) £1,000 per annum; (e) £2,000 per annum, and (f) over £2,000 per annum in the years 1939 and 1949.

The particulars requested by the Deputy are not available. The only information available on the classification by size of all personal incomes (other than from agriculture, forestry, fishing) is that, for the years 1938 and 1943, contained in Table 6 of the White Paper on National Income and Expenditure, 1938-44 (P. No. 7356). Particulars for incomes assessed to surtax for the years 1939-40 and 1940-41, which include incomes earned in the years 1938-39 and 1939-40 respectively, are available in Table 81 of the 22nd and 23rd annual reports of the Revenue Commissioners. The data set out therein are subject to variation according as further assessments are made or the existing ones adjusted.
