Vol. 122 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mileage Allowances.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (1) the reason for the delay in promulgating the order increasing mileage allowances to F.C.A. officers; (2) when these allowances will be paid, and (3) whether any provision will be made for the payment of interest on the arrears outstanding for the past three years.

A regulation providing for the payment of increased mileage allowances to officers of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil who are authorised to use their own cars on official business was made on the 3rd June, 1950. As I informed the House in reply to a question on this matter on the 27th April last, the increased allowances will have effect as from the 1st July, 1947. The arrears will be paid at the earliest possible date but, owing to the number of claims involved, covering over a period of three years, some delay in making the payments is inevitable.

Interest on the arrears will not be paid.
