Vol. 122 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fly Menace.

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the propaganda campaign being carried out by his Department against what has been described as the fly menace, he has taken into consideration the degree to which the danger to public health is aggravated by the failure of Dublin Corporation to return to the pre-war frequency of bin and refuse collection.

I have taken into consideration the danger to public health involved in the reduced frequency of bin and refuse collection by the Dublin Corporation. I am most anxious that the good results of the publicity campaign against the fly menace should not be nullified by allowing refuse which provides ideal breeding ground for flies to accumulate about households, shops and such places. I have conveyed my views to the Minister for Local Government and am at present in correspondence with him on the subject of increased frequency of bin and refuse collection in Dublin City.
