Written Answers. - Dublin and Cork County Councils: Rates and Road Works.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of (a) Cork County Council and (b) Dublin County Council for each month in each of the last three financial years the number of road workers employed on direct labour works, the local road rate in the pound, the amount raised locally for road works, the road grants provided from Government Funds, and the road rate (or proposed road rate) for 1961-62.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

NUMBER of workers employed on direct labour on roads and bridges each month in respect of the financial years 1958-59 to 1960-61 inclusive by Cork and Dublin County Councils.

Note 1.—The figures for employment do not include men employed on contract works or men employed on works financed under the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote.

Note 2.—The Main Road Improvement Grant to Dublin County Council in 1959-60 is the revised grant following a transfer of £8,450 from the County Road Improvement Grant. A sum of £14,000 in the case of Cork County Council and £16,600 in the case of Dublin County Council were transferred from County Road Improvement Grants to Main Road Improvement Grants in 1960-61 with the approval of the Department.
