Vol. 122 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Agreement with Western Germany.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will indicate the classes of goods which will be exported from this country to Western Germany in accordance with the recent trade agreement and the nature of the goods which will be imported from Western Germany.

The trade agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany is to be signed in Dublin to-morrow (Wednesday, 12th July) and it will be published immediately afterwards. The agreement follows in general the lines of last year's agreement. It contemplates, however, greatly expanded trade on both sides.

Taking the dollar as the accounting unit, provision is made for Irish exports to Germany totalling $5,460,000 and of German exports to Ireland totalling $6,770,000 compared with Irish exports of $3,250,000 and German exports of $4,140,000 in the current agreement. In addition to an increased level of trade, the ratio between Irish and German exports has been improved from the Irish point of view.
