Vol. 122 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finglas Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that there is a great need for an automatic telephone service to Finglas in view of the big number of factories and the great measure of activity there and, if so, he will expedite the provision of this service.

The need for an automatic telephone exchange at Finglas is recognised and the necessary planning is well advanced. But as accommodation for the exchange has to be secured and extensive alterations and additions to the underground cable system will be necessary it will be some considerable time before the new exchange can be provided. In view of this unavoidable delay arrangements have been made for a temporary scheme which will enable the busiest subscribers' lines to be connected to the automatic system in advance of installation of the new exchange. It is hoped to complete work on the temporary scheme early in the New Year.
