Vol. 122 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Eggs.

Pádraig Ó Cuinneáin

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in view of the fact that two creameries can pay 2/8 per dozen for eggs in the area between Barraduff and Rathmore, County Kerry, despite the fact that one of them uses a five-ton lorry attended by three men while the other is situated a long distance from the area, he will arrange to have the minimum price of eggs to the producer increased from 2/6 to 2/8 per dozen when delivered to creamery stores.

The guarantee which I gave to producers, of 2/6 per dozen for all eggs sold by them, was a minimum price which I was satisfied every buyer in the country could pay. I am aware that a number of buyers in various parts of the country who have adopted the most modern methods and desire to expand their trade are paying more than the minimum price. I do not propose on this account to make any alteration in the existing arrangements.
