Vol. 122 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Turf Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that turf sellers in North County Dublin are finding it very difficult to procure turf for the sale and, if so, if he will make arrangements to have adequate supplies made available.

I am aware that there is at present a shortage of machine-won turf for domestic use as production is hardly more than sufficient to meet the needs of industry and of the Electricity Supply Board.

If a shortage of turf exists in North County Dublin, fuel sellers can obtain turf from Fuel Importers Limited at their fuel dump in the Phoenix Park.

They have been refused.

I understand they could not get it there.

Has the Deputy definite information to that effect?

My information is that two people who are interested in the fuel trade came to me and said they could not purchase turf in Dublin or in the park. That is the only information I have.

If the Deputy can get that information from those people and supply their names and addresses, I will have this matter checked, because we have a few thousand tons there that we are very anxious to dispose of.
