Vol. 123 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - A Dublin Telephone.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether a complaint was received by his Department that a Dublin telephone was out of order and that such report was made at midnight on the 26th October, and that by letter dated the 31st October, his Department intimated that they had received this report and that the complaint was having special early attention, and whether, in view of the fact that the telephone in question is used in connection with a shipping concern, he is satisfied that prompt and adequate steps were taken to repair the fault in the telephone service to this number.

I understand that the telephone which the Deputy has in mind was reported out of order at 12.30 a.m. on the 27th October. The fault was intermittent only and despite numerous engineering tests it was not possible to locate the cause of the trouble until the 1st November. Repairs were effected on that day. The delay in restoring service was exceptional and was due to the intermittent nature of the fault.
