Vol. 123 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Offaly School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the cause of the delay in the erection of a new school at Killavilla, Roscrea, County Offaly.

As I informed the Deputy in reply to his question on the 21st February last, there was the problem of the water supply for the new school to be solved. The Deputy will understand that the negotiations in this matter in which my Department, the manager and the county council were concerned, took some time to complete and I am glad to be able to inform the Deputy that the matter has now been satisfactorily settled. The remaining preliminary arrangements in the case are nearing completion and I hope that it will be possible to sanction a grant, at an early date, for the erection of the new school.

When the grant has been sanctioned it will be a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works to have the working drawings and specification for the new school prepared and have the other necessary steps taken to enable the erection of the building to be proceeded with.
