Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Maize.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, in regard to his promise, contained in reply to a question on the 8th November, that ample supplies of maize would be available to any farmer in need of it, to tide his cattle over the period until the next grass season, he will state at what price the maize is to be made available, and whether he will accede to the request which he had recently from Killeshandra Co-operative Creamery to subsidise the price of maize for cattle feeding.

In answer to the Deputy's question, it is intended that ample supplies of maize will be available throughout the period referred to, and I do not doubt that the Killeshandra Co-operative Creamery Society will be able to help all those suppliers with whatever credit they may genuinely require to overcome the inconvenience facing them consequent on the partial loss of their hay crop.

Can the Minister say at what price this maize will be available to stock owners to maintain their stock?

A retail price of £26 a ton?

It is available to everyone who wants to buy it. They can have it by dropping a half-penny postcard to Grain Importers—hog, dog or devil. If the Deputy will send a postcard with a cheque at £26 a ton for six tons to Grain Importers to-morrow morning, a wagon will be despatched to him forthwith.
