Vol. 123 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Agricultural Labourers.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the total number of farmers in the country who employ hired labour generally, and if he will give the number employing (1) one to three labourers, (2) four to six labourers, and (3) over six labourers; and further, the total rateable valuation of the holdings in each of these classes.

At the census of population, 1946, the number of farmers who were returned as employers was 47,118. In this connection it must be understood that at the census persons are classified in accordance with their principal occupation and that, therefore, the number of landholders is in excess of the number who return their occupation as farmer.

As to the remainder of the Deputy's question, no information is available.
